The Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus (PSHS-EVC) Student Alliance (SA) served free sorbetes to approximately 500 scholars at the PSHS-EVC Gymnasium on Sept. 22 following the second day of the quarterly examinations through its ₱8,000 “ScoreBestTest” initiative.

The activity marked the SA’s first examination-period program focused on giving students a recreational break. The organization said it also sought to support local sorbetes vendors through the initiative. 

“[We wanted] to invoke our familiar and nostalgic Philippine culture of sorbetes while also giving support to our local vendors,” SA President Kobe Duan said.

According to SA Public Information Officer Ces Suarez, the organization wanted to recognize students’ efforts amid the demands of the examinations.

“With every Isko’s time and efforts exhausted by the demands of exams, we wanted to remind them that in the middle of all the stress they’re in, they still deserve to enjoy [the] simplicity found in the sweet taste of sorbetes,” Suarez said.

The treat offered students a respite from the examination period, with Grade 11 scholar Limwell C. Raz Jr. describing the activity as a welcome break after taking a Mathematics examination, emphasizing the initiative’s purpose.

“First of all, it was an agonizing day—Math—and it was also agonizing in a way that it’s very hot today,” Raz said. “The ice cream really helped a lot in cooling down and lowering my blood pressure. I’m very grateful for it,” he added.

As students prepare for their remaining examination subjects, the SA said it hopes the initiative will encourage them to continue doing their best regardless of their results.

“No matter the outcome, it’s never the end of the world for them,” Duan said. “We hope the students leave with a lighter heart and a reminder that they’ve already done their part by trying.”
